Question of faith

I'm supposed to be asleep, but I came across a few sites that made me change my mind. I've never been open about my dislike of evangelism, but I would like to provide this little belief of mine — faith is an opinion, not a truth. I'm not Christian. There, I said it. I was raised to be a Hindu but even still, the structures of religion don't appeal to me. I burn those bridges as I go. Yet I maintain the beliefs I believe — my faith — my opinion.

I assume what's bothering me the most is that so many people are publicizing their religion as what is right. Does it matter to you that I don't think you're right? That I was born to be controversial and terribly vociferous about it? To me, faith is an option someone can choose as they go along, that they can add to as they go. If you say that you adhere to God's rules, how do you know they truly are? Under the same pretense, if I adhere to my teacher's rules, am I still following a code of religion? In the same way band is a harmless cult, that's where I fear religion is heading. There's no push for unity. Everyone's on their own again, even politically. And even when I want to read someone's site, I'm unwillingly restricted by the evangelism portrayed. It's as if I am drawn to your content and then turned away again when I find the topic unfamiliar and different from everything I've ever read in my life.

I hope you don't find this harsh. I fully intend for everyone to go about their merry way upon reading this. But for once, I'd like the web-community to be united on something. The same way you try to put up with my technological jargon, I skim through your religion. It is, after all, the basis for a culture. But it is not the the truth I want to live by. My life is my life. My life is my choice.

I wish I had saved the link, but I read a few days ago about how organized religion has lead to all of our greatest wars and tragedies. A lot of times, religion leads to intollerance of others (especially in other religions, or atiests) and starts problems instead of helping us. That’s why I can’t really get into organized religion, but I won’t doubt that a god could exist.

I agree, faith is an opinion. Whatever it is you study you believe it how ever you want to.

People do have a tendency to forget that their own religion is not the be-all and end-all. I’ve never met two people with exactly the same beliefs. Like you said, it’s an opinion. Everyone puts their own slant on things.

My personal opinion is that if people were even half so concerned about life here on earth as they were about the afterlife we’d all be better off. :)

Haha, definitely. We’re all so obsessed in our own lives that we don’t notice the rest of the world. More than once I’ve forgotten who’s in office and who isn’t.

That reminds me - my dad promised me when I was little that he’d always help people with flat tires on the road and so far he hasn’t. What a gyp :(
